James N. Davis Hospital is in Neezoe, Paynesville City, and its chief administrator is Victor Quanya. He said the hospital is short on drugs and other essential medical items. The JND Hospital Chief Administrator wants the government to promptly intervene to help save the lives of patients, especially those suffering from curable but critical medical conditions.

“We are troubled by the situation and calling on the government to provide medicines and all other essential medical supplies we need to continue serving our people,” Quanya stated in a recent interview with our reporter.

According to Mr. Quanya, supplies to the hospital are often delayed by the bureaucratic bottleneck existing within the government’s supply chain system, something he believes puts the lives of people seeking treatment at the facility at risk.

He pointed out that his call on the Ministry of Health to act faster is not an indication of the ministry’s negligence but the need to fast-track the handling of bureaucratic arrangements, which appear to be responsible for the prolonged delivery time.

“It is time to be proactive. We understand the constraints, especially in meeting the procedures required to get supplies transported to hospitals and clinics across the country, but there is a need for the government to act fast enough to avoid chaotic situations such as the mass death of people at a hospital simply due to delay in providing needed supplies,” Quanya admonished.

The JND Hospital, previously with private ownership, was turned over to the government in 2008 by Mr. James N. Davis, father of James N. Davis Jr., in whose memory the hospital is named. James N. Davis Jr., died in 2007, following a period of protracted illness.

Meanwhile, Dr. Catherine, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Liberia, has disclosed that the medical supplies to JND would be delivered soon. Dr. Cooper stated that consignments are being packaged for onward delivery.

“We are doing everything possible to get the supplies to the hospital. The delay is due to some administrative requirements we had to meet, but they should rest assured that the supplies will arrive shortly,” Dr. Cooper assured.
